Centrex
for Rural Studies is an innovative 'rural outfit' and a 'branch
campus' of Manipal University. The reputed, multi-campus, Deemed
University has its head quarters at Manipal, Udupi district, Karnataka.
Unlike other wings of any University, the Centrex for Rural Studies,
works for 'rural communities' and thus acts as an 'Extension Unit'
of the University.
Through its multifarious activities, the Centrex has come to be
amply recognized by the rural communities, rural institutions, non-governmental
organizations, voluntary sector, various developmental departments,
district administration, and educational/research institutions of
national and international stature, apart from others. |
Objectives of the Centrex |
- Teaching.
- Training in social sectors with special reference to Rural Development
and Rural Reconstruction.
- Research and Rural Reconstruction.
- Consultancy.

Special Features |

- 'Community
window' through which issues connected with the rural communities
are perceived.
- 'Social
laboratory' where issues connected with the social sector are
researched.
- Training/Extension
platform through which rural youth, rural women, elected representatives
of panchayats, members of non-governmental/voluntary organizations,
representatives of other organizations/institutions are trained.
- Centrex
takes up various consultancy assignments (surveys, evaluations,
etc.)
- The
Centrex's library act as a 'resource point' for the concerned.
- Centrex
provides advisory services to rural people and rural organizations.
- Provides
resource support to various institutions, organizations, departments,
etc.
- Centrex
at times, acts as a link between the rural communities, rural
institutions and other developmental departments.
- Post
graduate students including Ph. D. researchers are guided.
- Centrex
raises its funds from various Ministries, Departments, Donors,
International Organizations, etc.
- 'Low
Budget Project' of the University.
